Artists interested in book illustration, and writers interested in the process of taking a manuscript to a finished book (perhaps with self-publishing in mind) will benefit from a discussion and demonstration by author/artist/illustrator David Aiken, with added comments from his wife and coauthor Zora.
The Aikens have written 5 books with boating and outdoor themes, and 7 books for children. David illustrated them all.
Items to be covered include developing a technique; creating and repeating characters; book design; finding and hiring a designer and/or illustrator (for the writers who are considering self-publishing); book illustration steps from thumbnail sketches to finished art pages, and the process of putting words and art together in preparation for printing.
Zora will suggest ways to fine-tune the manuscript before submitting it to a traditional publishing house, and she will describe the contents of the submission package. Specific interests or questions from those attending will dictate which subjects need further detail and discussion.
Saturday, March 26th from 1 to 4pm. $85 person
